![]() By the turn of the century the family were farming Maryland Farm in Ditcheat. During the early 1900's they were awarded the tenancy of Abbey Farm, the family lived upstairs and cheese was made and stored downstairs in what is today a kitchen and dining room. Over the last century and increasingly the last 50 years land has been steadily purchased, including Manor Farm, Wards Farm and Highbridge Farm, and the dairy herd increased in size. The farm has now grown to around 2000 acres of principally dairy farming but also includes some 400 acres of arable farm near Weymouth in Dorset. The name Maryland Farm is derived from Ditcheat's church, The Church of St Mary Magdalene. ![]() |
Manor Farm Stables
![]() The
farm buildings at Manor Farm were converted into Racing Stables in 1989
when they were no longer needed for housing livestock. The stableyard
is currently occupied by Paul Nicholls, one of the country's most successful
National Hunt trainers. In 1999 a dream was realised for Paul Nicholls
and Paul Barber when Seemore Business, ridden by Mick Fitzgerald, won
both the Cheltenham Gold Cup and King George V1 Chase.
